- Pedro del Hierro donates 100% of the profits from the sale of its solidarity cape from the ByBY collection to support women-led entrepreneurship and innovation
- WomenPaintToo, is an association founded by Pilar Mateo anked among the ten most recognized scientists in Spain and one of the world’s top 100 most influential women for her innovations in the fight against deadly diseases
Thanks to Pedro del Hierro’s solidarity initiative “ByBY,” which supports female entrepreneurship and gives visibility to innovative women, a total of €18,900 has been raised. The full amount will go to the WomenPaintToo project, created by scientist and doctor Pilar Mateo.
The origins of WomenPaintToo date back to 2023, when Pilar Mateo—recipient of more than 70 national and international awards for her work—participated in a dengue control project on the Colombia-Venezuela border. She developed technology to control mosquito eggs in laundry room walls. During implementation, she met many women who were heads of households in patriarchal societies. This experience inspired her to start WomenPaintToo, a movement that gives voice to innovative women and highlights their talent, strength, and creative capabilities.
The final push to launch WomenPaintToo (WPToo) came after a severe storm (DANA) destroyed her research center, a space where she had been supporting initiatives for women over 45. The funds raised will help transform that facility into a center for social inventors—scientific or not—who have developed innovative solutions to today’s challenges. In short, WomenPaintToo was created to give voice to women who, through creativity and perseverance, are changing the world based on their own experiences and knowledge.
The project includes the creation of international awards with financial support to recognize scientific social inventor; a non-scientific social inventor and communicators who highlight the work of these women throughout history. The latter category, open to men as well, will carry a smaller endowment, reinforcing the initiative’s commitment to equity and knowledge dissemination.
In addition, Pilar plans to offer the awardees access to her workspace, allowing them to develop their inventions further and establish an active network for social innovation. The initiative also aims to promote scientific vocations and inspire curiosity in technology among girls and young women, sowing the seeds for a more just, creative, and equitable society.
Marie Castellvi, General Manager of Pedro del Hierro and the other four premium brands under Tendam (Cortefiel, Hoss Intropia, Slowlove, and OOTO), stated:
“We are very pleased to collaborate with the WomenPaintToo project created by Pilar Mateo. It supports female inventors who are launching ideas that contribute to social transformation. Pedro del Hierro is a brand committed to a range of social projects for women, and Pilar’s initiative—which shines a light on social inventions created by women—is a powerful endorsement of their creative potential. Moreover, it will serve as a space for entrepreneurship and visibility.”
Last year, Pedro del Hierro launched its ByBy solidarity cape collection, and this year’s initiative focuses on supporting a project affected by the storm.
“By Women By Pedro del Hierro” aims to support female entrepreneurship and break down barriers to women’s professional development. The collection was unveiled in February during the “Top 100 Women Leaders” gala.
