• The Spanish group has joined the global coalition of leading fashion brands that are committed to a common core of key environmental goals concerning Global Warming, Biodiversity and the Oceans.
• Following its adherence to the Business Ambition for 1.5ºC initiative, Tendam has also been recognised by the United Nations Global Compact for its commitment to reaching the goal of limiting global temperature rises to 1.5ºC.

Tendam, one of Europe’s leading fashion retailers operating in the specialised chain store segment through the Cortefiel, Pedro del Hierro, Springfield, Women’secret, Hoss Intropia and Fifty brands, has just announced that it has joined the Fashion Pact (www.thefashionpact.org), representing yet another step by the Spanish multinational in its commitment to sustainable fashion.

As part of its strategy to manage its day-to-day operations efficiently and in an environmentally-friendly way, Tendam has joined the world’s leading fashion companies and set itself concrete quantitative goals to address the challenges facing the industry today in terms of Global Warming, Protecting the Oceans and Restoring Biodiversity. All this will be done within the framework of the Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative.

This translates into clear control policies in operations in which we are directly involved, while consistently pursuing maximum efficiency and minimum consumption”.

Tendam’s sustainability model is a cornerstone of its long-term value proposition which encompasses all its brands. Springfield, the Group’s leading brand, has its R[ECO]NSIDER collection (14% of the brand total offering) and its H2Ø denim line (accounting for 50% denim line), which are based on sustainable fabrics and reduced use of water and energy. During the first half of 2019, Tendam’s casual clothing brand launched the Reconsider fragrance, which is both natural and biodegradable in terms of the product and packaging. Women’secret, the group’s lingerie brand, is selling the Honest line (manufactured with organic cotton and recycled materials), which accounts for 15% of the Basics in Corsetry garments collection. The H2Ø denim at Cortefiel Man now represents over 70% of the brand’s jeans collection, while the Eco-Friendly programme at Cortefiel Woman (made with organic cotton and recycled polyester) now accounts for 9% of total garments. These figures have been attained in just two years.

Recognition from the United Nations Global Compact

Within the context of the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2019 (COP25), Tendam has received recognition from the United Nations Global Compact for its adherence to the Business Ambition for 1.5ºC initiative, which will set targets to limit global temperature rises to 1.5ºC, which is the threshold agreed by the scientific community to avoid the worst social and environmental impacts of climate change.

This commitment to make significant cuts to reach zero carbon emissions by 2050, which is also shared by the Fashion Pact, is part of the ambitious effort seen to date around the world by companies that are demonstrating leadership at a time of environmental, social and economic unrest and uncertainty.
