Tendam, one of Europe’s leading omnichannel fashion retailers, adheres as a member of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) to improve cotton production worldwide, reducing the impact in the climate due to its less intensive cultivation.

Cotton is one of the main raw material in Tendam’s brands production, a natural and biodegradable fiber, widely used in clothing and other home textiles. The use of more responsible materials such as organic fibers and recycled fibers in the production process allow avoiding the excessive use of water and chemical substances in the fabrics, reducing the environmental impact of the garments.

In addition, Tendam is committed to improving cotton growing practices globally with the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI). With the adhesion, the company has set the goal of reaching, by 2025, at least 50% sourcing of Better Cotton in the Group’s own brands.

BCI is a non-profit entity that connects people and organizations from across the cotton sector around the world, from field to store, and is characterized by carrying out one of the most prominent sustainable programs in cotton production. Its goal is to make global cotton production better for the people who grow it, better for the environment in which it grows, and better for the future of the sector.

This program has an interesting social part that focuses on defending the rights and quality of life of producers. The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) trains farmers to use water efficiently, care for the health of the soil and natural habitats, reduce use of the most harmful chemicals and implement the principles of decent work.

The Better Cotton Initiative is based on a Mass Balance system where Better Cotton is mixed with other types of cotton on its journey from the field to the final product. This system encourages suppliers to source a higher percentage of sustainable Better Cotton, as it does not require costly physical separation throughout the supply chain.
